The
Alaskan Klee Kai is a
miniature Husky and is one of the newest and rarest breed
of dogs in the world. The Alaskan Klee Kai was developed by
Linda Spurlin in Alaska in the 1970's and 1980's by selectively
breeding Alaskan Huskies and Siberian Huskies with smaller
breeds of similar conformation. Linda sold her
first Alaskan Klee Kai to Eileen Gregory in Colorado, USA in 1987,
and as people became aware of these amazing little dogs, the
interest and demand for them flourished. Whilst their numbers
are growing, they remain one of the rarest dog breeds in the
world, and are found in only a few countries outside of the
United States.
Alaskan Klee
Kai possess many of the same characteristics as the larger
Alaskan and Siberian Huskies, but are a much smaller dog.
They have the same striking appearance and loyal and affectionate
temperaments, but are more reserved with strangers. They have
the same double coat and share the desire to run, yet
due to their miniature size there is less fur and they require
less exercise than their larger cousins.
Southern Cross
Klee Kai are proud to be the owners of three Alaskan Klee Kai, and
have the honour of being the only breeder of Alaskan Klee
Kai in Australia. In fact, we are the only known breeder in
the Southern Hemisphere! We are located in the Southern Tablelands of NSW, Australia.
Our breeding pair, Roxie and Ikolik, were imported from the United States in October 2010, and their daughter who we have retained was born in December 2011.
We are extremely proud to be able to provide Australians with the opportunity to have Alaskan Klee Kai as pets. The
puppies will be rare as there will only be a few born a year, but if you are interested in obtaining
one or finding out more about the breed, please read our FAQ
page first and then contact us
at akk@sckk.com.au.
